The dollar was mostly higher in N.Y. trade on Friday, supported by a better than expected 3.0% Q3 U.S. GDP print. The dollar’s move up was led by EUR-USD losses and USD-CAD gains. USD-JPY though, again gave back the 114 handle, after printing three-month highs post-data. EUR-USD fell to three-month lows of 1.1575, as Madrid/Catalan concerns heated up, while USD-CAD briefly topped 1.2916. Cable recovered the 1.31 handle. The greenback stumbled on reports that Trump’s Fed chair pick would be Powell, who is seen as less hawkish than the Taylor, who was the previous front-runner.
