Following softer retail sales and slightly warmer PPI outcomes, the dollar index moved from 89.63 to 89.88 highs. The index later fell back under 89.70. Protectionist/tariff concerns weighed on the greenback, and on Wall Street, as Trump indicated China may be targeted with $60 bln in tech tariffs. EUR-USD topped at 1.2396 after the data, later easing back to 1.2347.
